Thomas Neil Muldoon passed away peacefully on November 3, 2017 in White Rock, British Columbia with his family by his side. Tom was born in Brockville, Ontario to parents Neil and Marjorie Muldoon. Tom leaves behind his beloved family, wife Marla, sons Chris (Taylor), Matt (Monica) and Alex (Ashley), his sister Mollye (Dan) and brother Ron (Michele).
Tom attended Queen’s University, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation he joined Wesco and worked in Hamilton, Trail, and Vancouver in various management roles.
Wesco brought Tom to the interior of British Columbia where he met Marla, the love of his life. Together they spent their time skiing in Rossland and enjoying the outdoors. Tom made many friends in Rossland and found it difficult to leave the country life and return to the coast.
After leaving Wesco, Tom joined Siemens in Vancouver where he became the Regional Manager for Western Canada. Tom’s path in life eventually led him to E.B. Horsman & Son where he spent the remainder of his career as President & CEO and Chairman. A big part of his decision to work with a family business that had over 100 years of regional operations was the common thread of family values. At E.B. Horsman & Son, Tom would spend less time travelling and more time at home with his family. Tom was a natural leader who was passionate about building a successful business through empowering the people he worked with. He was a team builder who loved to see people reach their full potential. Under Tom’s leadership E.B. Horsman & Son gained the prestige of being named one of Canada’s Top 50 Best Managed Companies, an achievement that he was very proud of. Business was very good to Tom over the years and he developed many long lasting friendships in business and in industry, something he missed dearly after retirement.
As passionate as Tom was about his career, family always came first and his devotion was clear to everyone around him. His boys kept him busy through the years with hockey, baseball, skiing, dirt biking and precious summers spent at the lake. Tom never missed a practice, game, birthday or Sunday dinner. Family dinners were treasured and always something to look forward to. Tom loved cooking and entertaining family and friends and was a gracious host.
Tom retired in 2015 after illness unexpectedly touched his life. Tom enjoyed spending his summers at the lake surrounded by friends and family and his winters in California chasing Marla around the golf course.
Tom will be greatly missed for his unconditional love, generosity and benevolent nature. For many people he was a trusted source of advice and encouragement. His spirit will live on through his sons and the many people he influenced, encouraged and inspired every day.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 9 at the Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey BC.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
