It is with heavy hearts that we announce Tim’s passing, 68, of Delta, BC on June 20, 2024. A wonderful father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Tim passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by many loving family members in his hospital room. He is survived by his loving wife Christine (Chris) of 42 years, son Patrick, brothers Mike (Suzanne) and Dan (Sheree) of Calgary, Alberta, several in-laws in BC and Nova Scotia, and many nieces and nephews in and outside of Canada. Tim was predeceased by his son Jonathan of Delta and parents Patrick and Christine Windle and nephew Justin, of Red Deer, AB.
Tim was born in Stettler, AB and grew up in Red Deer. Though he worked for the city of Red Deer for a few years, what Tim really wanted to do was to join the RCMP; a dream he realized on November 21, 1977 when he graduated from Depot. Tim was first posted to Richmond Detachment, BC, and then continued to serve in other units throughout the Lower Mainland such as the Vancouver Airport, CLEU, Drug Section, and Commercial Crime, just to name a few. Tim retired from Commercial Crime on January 10, 2015 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Tim and Chris met in 1979 while he was in Richmond and were married in 1982. They settled in Delta, where they raised their boys Patrick and Jonathan. Tim enjoyed supporting both boys through community sport groups taking on the role of coach, manager, and Scout Leader.
Having discovered a passion for camping with his parents and brothers Mike and Dan, Tim wanted to share this with Chris and their family. After many wonderful camping trips throughout the pacific west coast and Alberta, they decided to get a trailer at Black Mountain Ranch, Bellingham, where they enjoyed sitting around the campfire, playing horseshoes, golf, and horseback riding with friends and extended family.
While Tim enjoyed playing sports, his game was golf. Whether playing with work buddies, Chris and the boys, or other family and friends, there was always another round of golf. When Tim and Chris decided to become snowbirds in Arizona before he retired, this added in more games along with attending the Waste Management Golf Tournament. After retirement, Tim got a job as a Golf Marshall at Hazelmere Golf & Tennis Club back in Surrey, BC.
If Tim wasn’t playing sports, he was watching sports. This included his darling Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Seattle Seahawks. He also enjoyed going to Seattle or Toronto to catch games when he could, or spending time at home with family and friends for the NHL playoffs or the Super Bowl.
At some point, both Tim and Chris realized that they shared a love of travel outside of camping. They went on cruises with extended family, to Mexico with friends, Alberta and Nova Scotia for vacations and family weddings, and more recently Aruba.
After retirement, Tim took up sportfishing by joining a group of friends on yearly trips to Northern BC. June 1, 2019 was one of his favourite trips because he won the Fishing Derby, landing a 36 ½ pound Tyee Spring Salmon, receiving $600.00 in prize money. He would gladly share his catches with family and friends for fish dinners.
Before falling ill, Tim made his last trip to Arizona in January and then was able to get down to Black Mountain Ranch in May to enjoy his last campfire.
Tim made friends easily, wherever he went, whether through work, sports, or while spending time with family, and to list them would be too difficult. Tim was loved by many, but he will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Chris and son Patrick.
Though our hearts are broken, we are comforted by the fact that Tim is now with Jonathan. Lost too soon and always loved, Tim will forever be missed, living on brightly in our hearts.
A special thank you to Surrey Memorial Hospital N42 staff for their excellent care, kindness, and support.
