Shortly after her 90th birthday Valerie passed away, surrounded by her loving family.
Val now joins her husband, Gerard who passed in 1979 after a sudden illness.
Valerie will be missed by her many friends and family in Canada, Ireland, Netherlands, England and Australia.
Val and Gerard came to Vancouver in 1954 and raised three children while moving between Vancouver, Victoria, Ocean Falls and Port Alice – before finally settling in Port Coquitlam - in 1964. Valerie worked at Port Coquitlam City Hall finishing her career as Personnel Director after starting as a clerk in 1969.
After the death of Gerard and after her retirement Val moved to Parksville where she remained until 2022. Gerard was in the Dutch merchant marine when they met, and several years later they married, moving briefly to the Netherlands before deciding on Canada.
Val’s love for the sea and her home by the beach in French Creek, brought her great joy and memories of growing up in Ireland. For many years her home was the fun filled centre of family memories and gatherings. Grandma – is greatly missed.
Valerie and Gerard are survived by their sons Michael (Rosi) and Stephen, their daughter Sandra Mudry (Richard) grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be a private interment where Valerie will be reunited with Gerard in the Port Coquitlam cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made on behalf of Valerie to the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity or the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
