Verne was born in Regina, SK and grew up in Edmonton where he joined the Air Force in 1951, and after five years became a mechanic with Pacific Western Airlines, later becoming a flight engineer and a crew chief. Verne was actively involved in the Union before his retirement in 1990.

He found joy in music and created many friendships with his involvement in both the White Rock Karaoke and the Elks Club. Upon his retirement he became the founding Director of the Sponsoring Committee of the 907 Black Knights Air Cadets.
Verne is survived by his beloved partner Dixie Crossman, his four children; Karen (Gary) Booy, Kathy Cameron (John Griffith), Krista (Harold) Thibaudier and Keith (Kammy) Cameron. Grandchildren; Jesse Wierzbowski, Melissa, Ryan and Jenny Thibaudier, Riley and Reese Cameron. Verne is also survived by his one brother Gordon (Vera), the mother of his four children Ruth Cameron and many nieces and nephews. Verne was predeceased by his parents and his sister Gail and brother Kerry.
