Vernice passed peacefully at her home in Delta surrounded by love and family, just as she had hoped. Her 102 year journey took her from life on the farm in Spalding, Saskatchewan to teaching in rural Saskatchewan and Kamloops British Columbia, followed by motherhood and many shared adventures and travel with her family and her dear sister, Mayda.
The whole family will miss her entertaining stories spanning ten decades. During her 25 years in Kamloops and following the family's move to Delta in 1972, Vernice was a Beta Sigma Phi member for 70 years. She remained an avid Canucks (and other sports) fan to the end. Vernice was one of a kind and proved to be a resilient centenarian.
Predeceased by her husbands Bryce Drake (d. 1952) and Norman Stephenson (d. 1997), her parents, Carl and Stella Broberg; siblings Gertrude, Mayda (Clayton) Rennie, Douglas (Cecelia), Charles Jr, and Glenn (Vivian) Broberg and other dearly loved family members.
Vernice's legacy is her family: children Valerie Drake (Eric) Macdonald, Joan (Craig) Peddie, Douglas Stephenson, and Robert (Sandy) Stephenson, ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, plus her many nephews, nieces and their children.
A Celebration of Life will be held January 12th 2025, 2 PM at Northwood United Church, Surrey. Donations in Vernice's name may be sent to https://www.northwood united.org/
Interment at later date.
