AVIS DE DÉCÈS

William "Bill" James Henderson

14 octobre 1930 – 9 décembre 2022
Avis de décès de William "Bill" James Henderson
AUX SOINS DE

Victory Memorial Park & Funeral Centre

With profound sadness we announce the passing of William (Bill) Henderson, on December 9, 2022 in White Rock, at 92 years of age, after a brief illness. He is remembered and cherished by his devoted wife, Rita, his children Cynthia (Dan), Douglas, Byron (Corinne) and extended family Colleen (Michael), Moira (Rowland) and Jay, his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bill was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children, Corinne, and his brothers Robert (Bob) and Naunton (Newt).

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Bill joined the Royal Canadian Navy when he was a young man. After twenty−five years in the service, he moved to the Pacific Pilotage Authority where he worked until he retired. Bill had a sense of adventure and loved to travel. Together with his wife, Rita, they visited every continent but Africa. In later years, he enjoyed cruising and vacationing in Mexico and Hawaii where family often joined them.

Bill was a man of many talents, including being a skilled woodworker. His family gratefully received many handmade items. He shared his talents with grandchildren, often helping build a project for school. Bill was also a fantastic cook. He enjoyed being in the kitchen and would make supper for whomever happened to be there. On sunny days he liked nothing better than tending to his beautiful garden and in later years had to be convinced to have someone else to cut the lawn. Bill was also an active volunteer in the community. He volunteered for several years at Victoria’s Jubilee Hospital Cancer Clinic and the Alzheimer Resource Centre. When Bill and Rita moved to Surrey, they continued to volunteer by delivering Meals on Wheels for seven years.

A quiet, gentle man, with a great sense of humor, who always had a story to share, and enjoyed meeting others. His legacy though is his beloved family who were most important in his life. He found great joy in being a part of his grandchildren’s lives and was so proud of their accomplishments. How fortunate family and friends were to have him in our lives, how we miss his "yoo−hoo" as he came through the door and the love he shared so abundantly.
