

Born in Providence, RI a son of the late Giovanni and Maria (Corsetti) Macedonio, spent his youth in RI, summering in Swansea before moving permanently 40 years ago. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and Johnson and Wales University. A United States Army Veteran, he served as Platoon Sgt during the Korean War.
Founder, owner and operator of Columbus Oil in Swansea for over 50 years, he was the pioneer in discount pricing in the local oil industry and still enjoyed driving his oil trucks until he was 81 years old. Deeply devoted to his Catholic faith, he was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi in Swansea, a former communicant of St. Michael’s where he was a lector and Eucharistic minister, a daily communicant of St. Anne’s Shrine in Fall River and a lifetime sponsor of orphaned children overseas. Mr. Macedonio played with a Seniors Baseball League in East Providence until age 75, and worked out daily at the Fall River YMCA- where he was the oldest living member- and was an avid Yankee fan.
Surviving: 1 son: John A. Macedonio of Swansea, 3 daughters: Geraldine Capobianco of Saugus, Paula Nunes of Taunton, Regina Ventura of Swansea, 2 brothers: Louis Macedonio of Johnston, RI, Robert Macedonio of Cranston, RI, 3 sisters: Anna Cottle of Narragansett, RI, Phyllis Altieri of Cranston, RI and Evelyn Tedeschi of Attleboro, 10 grandchildren: Tina Dolan, Toni Allard, Wayne and Brian Lajoie, Jennifer Rodrigues, Stacy Lema, Jason Ventura, John Macedonio, Jr., Nicholas and Anthony Macedonio, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Palma Larney.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012at 8:30 AM from the WARING-SULLVIAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea with a funeral mass at 10AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Visiting hours Monday 2-4 and 6-8PM. In lieu of flowers contributions in his honor may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
