Crawford N. “Rick” Kirkpatrick III died peacefully on August 27, 2023 in Providence, RI with his family at his side. The only son of Dr. Crawford N. Kirkpatrick Jr. and Elizabeth (Gross) Kirkpatrick , he was born on June 8, 1950 in Baltimore, MD. He attended Calvert and Gilman schools in Baltimore, and graduated from Philips Exeter Academy in 1968, and Harvard College in 1972. He earned his J.D. from Northeastern University Law School in 1979. For nearly 30 years, he was the sole proprietor of an investment advisory firm focused on individual service, CNK RIA.
Rick was known for his calm, understated, intelligent good humor. A kind and compassionate man, civic engagement was a guiding principle of his life, as demonstrated by his decades long service on the Swansea Zoning Board of Appeals, serving as chairman several times, and on the Vestry of Christ Church, including serving as Warden. He belonged to many clubs and numerous conservation groups. A life long baseball devotee and ardent supporter of both the Red Sox and The Baltimore Orioles, his knowledge of baseball statistics was impressive. He was extremely proud of his multiple 300 Club trophies for winning the nation-wide competition in predicting the 10 players with the highest overall batting averages for the season.
Each year he looked forward to his summer visit to Eagles Mere, PA, a family gathering place for generations, staying in the cottage formerly owned by his grandparents where he played many a raucous game of Up Jenkins. Rick was an extremely gregarious fellow and, equal to being with his family, both nuclear and extended, he loved being with his friends of many years, whether it was celebrating birthdays and New Year’s Eve, a quiet lunch in the backyard, traveling together, or sitting on the porch in Eagles Mere.
Rick is survived by his wife, Pamela Fairbanks Kirkpatrick, his daughter, Emma Kirkpatrick, son-in-law, Jonathan Hammel, and granddaughter, Rosalie Bliss Hammel all of Swansea, his sisters, Tina Saunders of the Bahamas, Molly Kirkpatrick and husband Glenn Henkel of N.J., Sally Kirkpatrick and husband Steve Russo of OR, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, whose lives he loved to catch up on.
He was a great guy, loved by many, and we will miss him dearly.
A Celebration Of Life will be held at 11 AM on October 14th at Christ Church, Swansea.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Amos House, Providence, RI, Christ Church, Swansea, MA, or The Eagles Mere Conservancy, Eagles Mere, PA.
