

Debra A. (Lake) Mello, age 66, of Somerset, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Paul J. Mello to whom she has been married for the past 40 years.
Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Raymond and Irene (Dion) Lake, she spent her youth in Swansea and had been a resident of Somerset for over forty years.
A graduate of the former Bishop Gerard High School, class of 1976, she received her associates degree from Bristol Community College in early childhood education. She owned and operated Debbie’s Daycare in Somerset for over twenty years and enjoyed going to the Somerset Senior Center.
An excellent baker, she enjoyed gardening and plants, organizing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she adored.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Bethany J. Bangs of Somerset, Lisa “Lee” Mello and her lifelong partner Michelle McCarthy -Mello of Seekonk, MA, Jeffrey P. Mello and his wife Jennifer of Marietta, GA; sisters, Susan Lake of Swansea, Cynthia Ruest and her husband Samuel of Assonet; aunt, Jeanine Moss of Swansea; seven grandchildren, Cameron and Brianna Monast, Avery McCarthy-Mello, Molly, Elyse and Jaxson Mello and Liam Ridley and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Raymond Lake.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 6:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Relatives and friends invited. Visitation will be held prior to her service from 4:00 to 6:00PM. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215. Burial Private.
