Edward R. Hamel, 92, of Swansea, passed away peacefully at home on May 7, 2024. He was the husband of the late Ruth M. (Marsland) Hamel for 70 years. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Arthur Hamel and Juliette E. (Dennis) Hamel.
Mr. Hamel was a Sergeant with the Swansea Police Department until his retirement. He served as Drug Officer. Upon retirement, he operated his own landscaping business and worked as a Courier for Adler Pollock & Sheehan. As a young man, Ed also worked with O’Day Boat Company and Firestone in Fall River.
He was a talented model ship builder and history aficionado. In his later years, he enjoyed his weekly diner breakfast trips with Ruth talking about current events and the Dallas Cowboys.
He leaves his loving daughters: Deborah J. Sadler and her husband George of Rehoboth and Julie M. Feeney and her husband Martin of North Attleboro. Cherished grandfather of Jessalyn R. Correa and her husband Steven of Rehoboth, Alayne D. Chappell and her husband Austin of Rehoboth, Liam M. Feeney of North Attleboro, Lylah R. Feeney of North Attleboro, and great-grandfather of Daniel G. Correa, Isabel S. Correa, and Julian T. Chappell, all of Rehoboth. He was the brother of Janine M. Biron of Fall River and the late Richard Hamel, Doris Kwarcinski, Joseph A. Hamel., Norman Hamel, Robert Hamel, and Vivian Rebello.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Hope Health Hospice, Market Basket District Manager Paul Quigley and South Attleboro Store Manager Brian Doucette for their many acts of kindness to Ed in his final years.
His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 10:30AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to the Swansea Police Association, 77 Locust St, Swansea, MA 02777 will be appreciated.
