

He was born in Fall River the son of the late Gilbert R. and Olive (Barboza) Howarth and was a lifelong resident of Swansea. He was a 1964 graduate of Joseph Case High School and received his Associates Degree from Fisher Junior College. Mr. Howarth was also an Army Veteran during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Howarth was employed as a Produce Manager for Stop & Shop for 36 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a Swansea School Committeeman for 6 years, coached Swansea Little League, was a former member of the Swansea American Legion and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Mr. Howarth adored his four children and his eight grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his close friends on Prudence Island.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four children: Richard Howarth and his girlfriend Susan Arruda of Swansea, Scott Howarth and his wife Kim of Assonet, Carrie Ann Alto and her husband Peter of Boston and Tracy Howarth of Westport; two sisters: Carole Hyland and her husband Butch of Swansea and Kathy Miller and her husband James of Ft. Myers, FL; eight grandchildren: Mathieu, Nicholas, Nadia, Jayleigh and Molly Howarth and Hope, Adam and Phoebe Alto; Russell’s beloved dog Sadie and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 10 AM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT BIRCHCREST, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 5-8PM. Burial will be private.
