

Gerald S. Hewitt, “Gerry,” age 83, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of Veronica A. (Sousa) Flynn Hewitt with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.
Born in Newton, the son of the late George S. and Lillian E. (LaBounty) Hewitt, he was a longtime resident of Berkley. He attended Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School and was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Vietnam War.
A skilled machinist he worked for Shawmut Mills in West Bridgewater and then at Hendricks Pools, Inc. in Seekonk until his retirement. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association, the Taunton Rifle and Pistol Club and the Gun Owners Action League of Massachusetts. Mr. Hewitt also enjoyed blacksmithing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, George S. Hewitt and his significant other Sue of Omaha, NE and Howard D. Hewitt and his significant other Shelby of East Providence, RI; one daughter, Lola M. George of Vernon, CT; three stepsons, Gerald T. Flynn Jr. and his wife Melia of Cranston, RI, Andrew J. Flynn and his wife Jennifer of Las Vegas, NV, and Kenneth R. Flynn and his wife Jacquelyn of Quincy, MA; one stepdaughter, Kathleen A. Riding and her husband Mark of Portsmouth, RI; two grandsons, Christopher and Lucas George; three step grandchildren, Jack, Kaylin and Julianna Flynn and three great grandchildren, Darius, Milah and Mason, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William F. Hewitt, Lloyd A. Hewitt, Milton S. Hewitt, George D. Hewitt, Lola E. Fandrey, Eleanor Griffin, and the former husband of the late Lorraine (Pelland) Hewitt Barrow.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30AM in St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, 499 Spring Street, North Dighton. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Monday from 4:00PM-7:00PM.
