Dear Eastwood Family,
I'm so sorry for your precious loss.  I can't remember a time when Heather wasn't a part of my life.  While growing up, we spent countless hours in the pool, riding our bikes, sleepovers, playing kickball in the street and especially staying outside  at night until the street lights came on, we always waited for the last one before we would go in.  Now, your street light has gone out forever but your wonderful memories will live on.  I will always treasure my memories from our trip to Florida. Know that I will always have a place in my heart that is empty and it won't be fixed until we meet again in Heaven. 
Don't worry Heath, my errands will get done somehow...

I am so sorry to hear about Heather.  I get dialysis at the same clinic where she was - over on Weaver St in Fall River.  She would usually be getting ready to leave when I came in for the afternoon.  She and I only knew each other in passing, but she knew me by name and many times when she saw me she would say Hi or Good night or Have a nice day off or Have a nice weekend.  I offer my condolences to her family.

Dear Heather,
It is not easy entering into a new family later in life, but you welcomed me as your new sister-in-law with open arms and an open heart.  When I first met you, my family all lived out of state. You, your mom, Harold, and I spent many holidays together (just the four of us).  I remember one Easter – you were driving home from the hospital in Boston with your mom.  You were so sick, but you still came over to spend the holiday with us so we wouldn’t be alone.  You were always thinking of others.  I thank you for taking care of Penelope all the times we went on vacation, for being the first one at my house to sit with me when my mother passed away, and for all the other things you have done for us (too many to be mentioned or remembered).  AND… thank you for always keeping us “in the loop!”

Heather.  You were my first, true, wonderful love.  It is because of you that I am able to love others.  Without knowing you I would not have ever had a measuring stick to know what love means.  I loved you with all of my heart, with the innocence of youth.  Before there was grown up love injected with disappointments and failures and the distractions of grown up lusts, there was the love that is above all else.  It is the affection you shared with me that I carry all my life and that has allowed me to feel love for others.  
I was the luckiest little boy to ever have lived in the world.  Heather, I was able to share moments with you that will always be in my heart. And now that your flame has flickered out, my world has dimmed.  
Heather, when I held your hand those times as a boy and told you that I would love you forever, because that is all I wanted to do, I meant that I would love you forever.  Heather, I will love you forever.  And I will never, ever stop loving you, because it is all I ever want to do.  Our hands are apart, but our hearts will always be together.  And every beat whispers your name in my ears.

  You have lived your life to make others happy.  Never asking for anything except what others needed.  You left us much too soon and you will will be missed.  I remember all the times that you helped me at the restaurant, just wanting to do what you could for me without any more than lunch as payment.  
   Family was always the most important thing to you.  You were the last to be born and the first to be reunited with Dad in heaven.  Please say hello to Dad and let him know that one day, we will all be reunited as a Family again.
   I love you and this life will never be the same without you.

To My Dear Baby Sister,

You were the ill one, but the strong one - the youngest one, but the "go to" one. 
 
Whenever I needed you, all I had to do was call and ask "may I speak with my baby sister?"

You were there for me through the happy times and the sad ones. You would always say "I pray for you every night. I pray for everyone".

You took care of the family. You sat with all of us whenever we were ill, tending to all our needs and then prayed for us.

Now I wonder what I will ever do without you.  It's a life I could never imagine.

When my closets were full, you organized them.

When your garden was planted, you started mine.

And when your heart stopped beating, you broke mine.

I'll pray for you always my dear Baby Sister.

A Tribute to My Baby Sister

I remember:
Mom announcing 
that she was expecting you,
the months of excited anticipation.
The day you were brought home
from the nursery.
I ran from the bus 
all the way down the street
and burst into the house.
"Shh, the baby's sleeping."
Dressing you in those cute outfits,
Pushing you in your stroller
up and down the street,
Teaching you to walk--"Stop it,
Mary Jane!
You're making my baby
grow up too fast!"
Your first name for me--"Sissy,"
The "boo-boo" times,
The silly times--
"Spud, you're so funny!"
Shopping at the GAP, 
lunch included.
A trip to Florida, New Hampshire,
Arubs, New Orleans . . . .
"I'll keep prayin' for ya, 
Miss Heather," our doorman
in New Orleans would say.

When you became sick 
from kidney failure,
the crying, the questions, 
the pep talks, the daily
hospital visits, lunch included.
My turn to have kidney failure,
and you answering my questions.
Dialysis together--we were adamant
about having fun (General Hospital
discussions and Battleship,
"Miss!  Hit!  You sank my
aircraft carrier!")
The transplants, the pain of loss,
and trying again.
The excitement of good health 
without dialysis . . . .

Suddenly, things didn't seem
quite right.
Phone calls and visits wracked 
with pain,
tears,
questions . . . .

Then the inconceivable occured.
You were gone.

I have a broken heart . . . . 

Say "Hi" to everyone up there
from all of us down here, Sweetie.

"Shh, the baby's sleeping."

I hope knowing she is now with her dad and Nana in heaven will give you some comfort at this most difficult time. I know how much she loved her dad.
