Hilda Carvalho

Hilda (Paiva) Carvalho, “Grandma Hildy”, age 97, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Country Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Frank C. Carvalho, a United States Army Veteran who was the recipient of the Silver Star and Purple Heart.

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Rezendes) Paiva, she was a lifelong area resident.

Hilda worked as a waitress for 40 years before retiring, primarily at Magoni’s Resturant in Somerset. She was a talented artist who loved to do crafts of all kinds, loved to bake and spend time with her family.

She is survived by four daughters: Pamela Bettencourt and her husband Frederick of Swansea, Maureen Scudder of Newport News, VA, Cynde Cerce of Palm Desert, CA and Patti Richardson and her husband Craig of Palm Desert, CA, one son: Randy Carvalho and his wife Michele of Swansea. She was the mother of the late Nancy List. She has sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 15 siblings.

The family wishes to give special thanks to their mom’s guardian angels at Country Gardens, especially, but not exclusively to Donna, Aldina, Natalie, Maureen, Lori and Cassie.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 10AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
