

John B. Hayden, age 62, of Tiverton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 26, 2017 while courageously battling lung cancer. He was best friend and loving husband of Dale A. (Birkett) Hayden to whom he had been married for the past 40 years.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late James B. and Anna (Baker) Hayden, he grew up in Somerset and lived in Fall River before moving to Tiverton in 1992. A graduate of Somerset High School, class of 1972, he was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during the Vietnam War as Lance Corporal.
John worked for the Somerset Police Department, Globe Manufacturing, Sears Holding Co. and most recently at Ameripride Linen Services as a Sales Representative. A lifelong musician, he was a lead singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist. He and his son Blake formed the “Ten Cent Toll” Band and could be heard at many local establishments. His passion for music lives on in his children who are all talented artists.
An avid golfer and a member of the St. Joseph Golf Club, he enjoyed playing at Hidden Hollow and Middlebrook Country Clubs. John was a true homebody who enjoyed hanging out with close friends and family members and particularly, granddaughter Daisy who was number one on his list. She made it known that he was the best “Pops” ever and the two of them could often be found out in the yard riding around on the lawn mower. He loved to cook and bake homemade bread and pizza, enjoyed spending time at Horseneck Beach, reading a good classic, and relaxing by the fire-pit with family and friends while “Jamming Out” on his guitar.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons; Nathan W. Hayden and his wife Betsey who now reside in Columbus, OH, Blake B. Hayden and his companion Nicole Walker of Tiverton, RI, Nicholas John Hayden and his companion Tamara Grenier of Nantucket, MA, granddaughter; Daisy Hayden and her mother Rachel Powers, sister; Cheryl Johnson of Middletown, RI, in-laws; Carol and William D. Birkett, Sr. of Somerset, MA, brother-in-law’s; Stephen P. Birkett and his wife Elizabeth of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, William D. Birkett, Jr. and his wife Linda of Somerset, several nieces and nephews and a grand puppy Foxy. He was the brother of the late James Hayden and brother-in-law of the late Michael Birkett. John was especially fond of his young niece, Montana S. Birkett who was very comforting during his illness.
Visiting hours are Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and his Funeral will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea.
