

Born in Sao Miguel, Azores he was the son of the late Joao and Isabel (Cabral) Pacheco. Mr. Pacheco immigrated to the United States in 1950 and lived in Freetown for many years.
A graduate of Somerset High School, Class of 1962, he received his Bachelor Degree in Textile Engineering from the former Southeastern Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1967. A Veteran of the US Army he served as Platoon Sergeant and Radio Relay.
He was a Special Needs Teacher at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School for many years before retiring in 2003 and was their baseball coach for 28 years. In 2011 Diman officially named their ball field the “John Pacheco Baseball Field”. He was also the owner of the former Baystate Baseball Camp and coached baseball at UMass Dartmouth for many years.
Mr. Pacheco was a Board Director and past President of the Southeastern Massachusetts Football Association, umpired baseball, refereed basketball, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Somerset High School, Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School and the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association.
A wine enthusiast, he enjoyed gardening, golfing, cooking, but most of all, spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending summers at Baker’s Beach.
In addition to his former wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jenna Pacheco of Bridgewater, Kyla Pacheco of Freetown; one brother, Vasco Pacheco and his wife Paula of Swansea; many nieces and nephews and his grand dog, “Goose.” He was brother of the late Mary Medeiros.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 10:00AM in Faith Chapel Assembly of God, 340 Pleasant St., Bridgewater. All are welcome. Visitation Wednesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. In lieu of flowers contributions in his honor may be made to the John E. Pacheco Scholarship Fund, Attn: Rev. Pierce, 340 Pleasant St., Bridgewater, MA 02324.
