

Mary Alice (Couto) Szczepanek, age 87, of Tiverton, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Stanley R. Szczepanek with whom she would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this June.
Born in Seekonk, a daughter of the late Joseph and Yolande (Medeiros) Couto, she lived in Seekonk and Swansea for many years before moving to Tiverton.
She was a graduate of East Providence High School, class of 1947. She and husband were the owners and operators of Quality Paint and Wallpaper, a longtime family business, in Barrington.
An avid reader, she enjoyed gardening, watching the Red Sox and walking the beach when visiting Florida.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children: Stanley R. Szczepanek and his wife Charlene of Rehoboth, Marcia A. Trodson and her husband Craig, Jeffrey R. Szczepanek and his wife Maureen all of Seekonk, Gail L. Rainey and her husband Timothy of Providence, one sister: Emma Mello of Warren, one brother: Albert Couto of Taunton, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Steven M. Szczepanek and sister of the late Alda Mello, George Couto, Jilda Page and Joseph and James Couto.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 10:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. Dominic’s Church, 1277 G.A.R. Highway, Swansea. Visiting hours Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor may be made to the American Lung Association, 260 West Exchange Street, Providence, RI 02903. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
