Viviana Lorraine (Flores) Alfonso, age 95, of Swansea passed away April 30, 2024 in Somerset. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph J. Alfonso to whom she had been married for 31 years prior to his passing.
Born in Somerset, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Clara (Pereira) Flores. She spent most of her childhood in Fall River and moved to Swansea in 1953.
Viviana worked for many years as a seamstress at the former Louis Hand in Fall River, retiring in 1991 and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. When home from her travels, she could be found catching up on her soap operas, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, doing crossword puzzles and sipping Lipton Tea (her favorite beverage). Above all else, Viviana loved spending time with her family and had a very close relationship with her sisters and grandchildren especially.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane M. Soares of Swansea, son-in-law, Ronald Kane of North Dartmouth, her grandchildren: Tracy-Jo (husband, Michael) Anderson of Norton, Craig (wife, Linda) Franco of Bristol, Stacey (husband, Scott) Moniz of Swansea and William (partner, Melissa Reed) Soares, Jr. of Swansea, her sister, Lorraine Nascimento of Somerset, her great grandchildren: Ryan Franco, Shawn Franco, Torie Jane Moniz, Cole Moniz, Abigail Rose Anderson, Brett Anderson and Ryker William Soares and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Sharon Kane, mother-in-law of the late William Soares, Sr. and sister of the late Mariann DeCambra, Helen Costa, Theresa Frates and Lionel Flores.
Her Funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardner’s Neck Road, Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private.
