

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved uncle, brother and friend, Francis (Fanny) MacNeil on Friday, December 12, 2025 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in St. Margarets Village on January 14, 1944. He was the son of the late John James "Johnny" and Jane "Janie" MacNeil.
In his earlier years, Francis moved to Ontario and worked in an automobile factory on an assembly line welding frame components in place. After that he moved back home and worked at National Sea unloading fishing boats and his last job in Neils Harbour was at the fish plant. He enjoyed fishing, sports, playing cards and telling jokes or stories. In his later years, Francis enjoyed his daily trip around the village, chatting with anyone whom he bumped into. He will be missed.
Francis is survived by his brother Wendel "Winkie" MacNeil and his 12 nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Mary Effie Gilliland and his brothers James Angus MacNeil "Jim", Paul Bernard MacNeil "Bernie", Murdoch Cleitus MacNeil "Keiths", Michael Theodore MacNeil "Teddy" and John Thomas MacNeil "JT".
Francis was also predeceased by his long time love and companion for many years Vera Gwinn. Vera's children along with anyone else that was close to Francis always held a special place in his heart. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family by visiting fillmoreandwhitman.com.
