Allie was a kind and generous man, deeply devoted to his family. He took immense pride in his children, Tara (Sean) Ratchford and Scott (Katie) MacLean, and adored his grandsons, Nixon (7), Dawson (4), and Hardge (7 months). His family was his greatest joy and he lived for their happiness.
He is also survived by his sisters, Beryl (Donnie) Forrest, Louvine (Lenny) Bonner, Darlene MacLennan, and Sherry (Joey) Thurbide, as well as his brother, Kenneth (Cathy) MacLean. He also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces and nephews, whom he took on countless adventures, creating memories that continue to bond them today.
Allie is predeceased by his mother Catherine “Sandy” MacLean, sister Donna Smith, and brothers William “Billy” and Malcolm “Maxie” MacLean.
Originally from Florence, Allie made Balls Creek his home in 2004, forming friendships that became as dear to him as family.
He worked for Upper Lakes Shipping/Algoma and later as a general laborer with Local 92, traveling west for work. Known for his strong work ethic, he was always ready to lend a hand.
Carrying on his mother’s tradition, Allie showed his love by cooking big meals, gathering loved ones around the table, and filling his home with laughter and good food. His family and friends will always cherish the warmth and care he put into every meal.
Music was also a constant in his life, whether through old tunes on the radio, searching for favorites online, or listening to his son play guitar. It brought him comfort, connection, peace, and lasting memories.
Allie felt everything deeply, wearing his heart on his sleeve and fully embracing the moments of life. Always able to make something out of nothing, he faced challenges head-on with grit and determination, never backing down. True to his nature, he left this world just as he lived in it—on his own terms.
Allie will be profoundly missed, but his legacy of kindness, resilience and unwavering love for his family and friends will live on forever in their hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Allie’s home, on May 9, 2025, on what would have been his 67th birthday, at 6:00pm. In keeping with his love for gatherings, it will reflect the big BBQs he often hosted. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to cancer research in his memory.
"Now there's a way, and I know that I have to go away, I know I have to go."
Lyrics by Cat Stevens, used with appreciation.
