Margaret D. (Nicholson) MacLean, 78, Florence, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, to cross over to be with the Lord on November 15, 2010, in the Northside Community Guest Home from the end stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
Margie was born, December 2, 1931, at the family residence on Crescent Street, Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Mary Ann (Gillis) Nicholson.
Margie was an adherent of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and was employed in her younger years at Dr. T. L. Sullivan cleaning staff.
Margie was a loving wife to the late Lorne MacLean. Margie is survived by her loving and devoted children, Nancy (Nicky) Roland, Alder Point; Donalda (Charlie) Devoe, Millcreek; Norman (Freda) MacLean and Connie (Tommy) Forrest, both of Florence, Also left to mourn are her pride and joy, her precious grandchildren, Donna Lee (Derek) Thompson, Stephen Devoe, Nicole (Brandon) Roland, Mary Louise (John) McCormick, Nicholas(Jacqueline) Roland, Avery and Lauren MacLean, T.J and Shelby Dawn Forrest; great grandchildren, Alanie, Maggie and Hope Thompson, and Hailey and Kadence McCormick.
Also surviving are her sisters, Christena Allen, Florence Ellis, Sandra (Ralph) McKeigan, Lynn (Lorne) Tait, all of Windsor, Ont.; Ann (Fred) Burt, North Sydney. Also surviving are brothers, Donald (Connie), Windsor, Ont.; Angus (Rose), BC; Ted (Ethel), Kentville; Gary (Alta); Richard (Charlene), Daniel (Theresa), all of Sydney Mines, Jack (Gloria), Bras d’or and brother in laws, Lloyd and Gordie (Millie) MacLean and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Margie also leaves behind a very special friend and neighbor Bev Sampson.
Besides her husband Lorne and parents. Margie was also predeceased by her infant daughter, Mary Louise and brothers, William Kenneth, Shelby and twin brothers Cavell and Melrose; brother-in-law, Ken Allen, Bill Ellis and sister-in-law, Doreen MacLean.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, in Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral service will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday, in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines, Rev. Marion Barclay MacKay officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
As memorials, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or to the Northside Guest Home (Theresa Terrence Wing).
