Born on March 14th, 1963, Norm was a longtime resident of Ross Ferry. For many years, he was a dedicated member of Millwright Local 1178. His career as a millwright took him to many different job sites, and he took pride in being part of his trade union.
An avid hockey fan, Norm spent many winters cheering on, and often cursing, the Toronto Maple Leafs. No matter the time of year, he could often be found outdoors. His daughters and friends’ fondest memories are of summers camping in Englishtown and days spent swimming at Ross Ferry wharf. When the seasons turned, his love for the outdoors didn't fade; he passed along his love for skating and sledding to everyone fortunate enough to join him on the ice or at his property in Boularderie.
Norm is survived by his daughters, Emily Anne (Soren Dueck) and Katie Lynn, as well as their mother, Joann Day. He also leaves behind his sisters, Eileen (David), Darlene (Donnie), and Jean (Darren); nephews David, Michael, Justin, Brandon, Tyler, Ian and Don Ryan; aunt Nita, and uncles Howard and James, along with many great nieces and nephews, cousins, too many friends to name, and beloved pets that were very dear to him.
He was predeceased by his mother, Eva (Evie) MacLennan, and his father, Angus (Gussie) MacLennan.
"Life is a journey with many seasons. We choose to remember the brightest days, the sound of skates on a frozen pond, laughter heard from sledding at the Clay Hill, and the nights spent around a campfire with our dad.”
The family would like to send their sincere thanks to Norms good friend and neighbour, William (Bill) McGean, the Ross Ferry Fire Department and the first responders who have helped the family through this difficult time. A special thank you also goes out to the many friends and neighbours who supported Norm throughout the years.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, January 30th at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home at 8 Clyde Ave, Sydney Mines. A burial at Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines, and a Celebration of Life is to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the SPCA of Cape Breton. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.fillmoreandwhitman.com.
