It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Sharon Darlene Hawley on Sept. 23, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born and raised in Mill Creek she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Idella Reiley. She was predeceased by son Clarence Pye, brother Truman Reiley, husband Alfred Hawley and life partner Peter MacKinnon.
Survived by daughters Idella (Paul) Matheson, Cora Lee Pye, Wanda LeeAnn Pye, grandchildren Scott Pye, Andrew Pye, Marie Pye, Jason Matheson (Christine MacKinnon), and Ryan Matheson and step-grandsons Todd and Andra and one great grandson Timothy. Siblings Cora (Stanley) Jessome, Gordena (Neil) MacLeod and John (Ann Marie) Reiley and sister-in-law Theresa Reiley.
Darlene had many interests over the years from playing darts, puzzles, a good game of cards, singing, ceramics and cake decoration just to name a few. She was a member of the Point Aconi Community Hall Association and Sydney Mines Seniors and Pensioners Club.
Visitation will be held Wednesday September 27 at 2-4 & 7–9 pm. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11am on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, 8 Clyde Avenue, Sydney Mines. Following the service, there will be a reception at approximately 12:30pm at the Sydney Mines Seniors and Pensioners Club, Fraser Ave. Sydney Mines. The family would also like to thank all of the healthcare workers who have in any way been involved in mom's care over the last number of years. Many of you, she came to think of as family.
