It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Wanda Lynn (Hopkins) Mac Neil - a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and dear friend - on May 5, 2025 at the age of 65.
Born and raised in Sydney Mines, April 4,1960, Wanda was the daughter of Peter and Patricia Hopkins. She met the love of her life, Lewis, and they married shortly after on July 1, 1978. Together, they built a loving home in Millville, where they raised their three children.
Wanda is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 47 years, Lewis MacNeil; her children, Tanya Farrell (Tim Farrell), Ashley MacNeil (Shawn MacDonald). Shamus MacNeil (Jenna MacNeil); and her grandchildren, Olivia, Georgie, and Bailey. She is also survived by her Mother, Patricia Hopkins; sisters, Arlene (Hopkins) Smith, Carol Beth (Hopkins) Confiant; and brothers, Wayne Hopkins, Bruce Hopkins, Brent Hopkins and Darren Hopkins. Wanda will also be greatly missed by her loving goldendoodle Rosie.
Wanda was predeceased by her father, Peter Hopkins and her brother, Doug Hopkins.
If you knew Wanda, you loved her. She was a woman whose kindness knew no bounds. Generous to a fault, she was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was to a neighbor in need or a stranger passing by. Her heart was as vast as the ocean, and she would give you the shirt off her back without a second thought.
Wanda began her career in Early Childhood Education, working as a childcare provider and later supporting Social Services. She later returned to school and completed the Continuing Care Assistant Program (CCA), where she had an impactful career caring for others. Her energy was truly infectious, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness are a beautiful testament to her incredible spirit. Wanda was an angel on earth, spreading warmth and love wherever she went.
She loved spending time with friends, family, and especially her grandchildren. Whether it was camping, travelling, or visiting, she thrived on being around others, hosting, and cooking for a crowd, even if there wasn’t one.
Wanda’s generous spirit and her unconditional love will live on in our hearts forever.
A graveside service will be held at St James cemetery at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, followed by A Celebration of Life at the Millville Community Center. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting fillmoreandwhitman.com.
