Alexander Walter Francis, 27 of 55 Beach Rd. Eskasoni, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born in Sydney, he was the son of Peter Francis of Chapel Island and Mary Francis of Eskasoni.

He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. Alex loved his music, especially writing, singing and rapping. He also was active in Judo circles and attended all the anti drug activities he could, actually receiving an award for his participation. He had graduated from high school and from Patrick’s Career College.

He is survived by 8 sisters Heather Lewis; Sabrina Lewis; Lucy Lewis, all of Eskasoni; Cynthia Francis; Tabitha Francis, both of Chapel Island; Denise Holdridge, Maine; Annie Paul; Chastity Paul, both of Eskasoni; 3 brothers John Lewis, Eskasoni; Peter Francis, Chapel Island and Bert Lewis, Eskasoni. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, several nieces and nephews , a godchild Jace , maternal grandmother Mary C. Francis, Eskasoni, and by his godparents

He was predeceased by his brother Lewis and sister Wendy Lewis and step-father Wilbur Lewis.

Visitation for Mr. Francis will take place on Saturday after 7 p.m. at the Gabriel Center, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
