102 – Sydney
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alphonse Chiasson on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at home.
Born in Grand Etang, he was the son of the late Daniel and Suzan (Aucoin) Chiasson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Alphonse worked at Olands Brewery in Halifax and later, for many years, as a labourer at the Sydney Steel Plant until his retirement in 1972. He was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas in Europe. He was a quiet man, loved spending time at home, taking his daily walks, and was well read and could always be found at the library.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marie A. Deveaux and his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Roger and siblings Maryann, Sr. Catherine, Helen, Albine, Joseph, Moses, Tommy and Andrew.
Visitation for Mr. Chiasson will take place on Sunday, April 14 from 2-4:30 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Anthony O’Connor officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
