Anne C. MacLennan, 100 years old, passed away comfortably at her residence, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, on December 11, 2025. Born in Sydney, NS, September 20, 1925, Anne was a lifelong resident of Coxheath. She attended Coxheath School and Sydney Academy.
Anne graduated from Sydney City Hospital School of Nursing in 1952, then from Montreal General Hospital in Operating Room Technique and Management, and the State University of New York in Cardiac Nursing. Anne practiced her nursing in Ontario at the Cornwall General but mostly at Sydney City Hospital, having retired as evening and night supervisor in 1979 due to ill health.
Anne had a sweet tooth and always enjoyed a good cup of hot tea. When living at her home in Mackay Court on Keltic Drive, she was always interested in and looked forward to seeing and hearing the stories of the grandchildren of all her friends and neighbors. While in Harbourstone, “Buttercup” enjoyed gathering for meals, when she could, and always looked forward to seeing Santa Clause each year, pulling on his beard to ensure his authenticity. She was extremely appreciative of her 100th birthday celebration for a life well-lived. Thank you to the dedicated and compassionate staff of Harbourstone for their exemplary care, kindness and support to Anne during her stay.
Anne was the last surviving member of her family, predeceased by her parents Donald Neil (“Dan”) and Fedoria (“Dora”) (McDonald) MacLennan and brother Alexander (June). She was also predeceased by close family friend Sheila Swinnen. Anne is survived by cousins and friends, including close family friend Marlene Bragg.
Visitation will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, December 18th from 2-4pm. As an adherent of the United Protestant Church of Sydney River, a Celebration of Life will be held there at 10am on December 20th with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating and a small reception to follow.
Interment will take place in the Alfred Smith Memorial Cemetery in Sydney Forks at a later date. Donations in her memory may be given to the United Church at Sydney River for the organ fund or the Alfred Smith Memorial Cemetery fund.
