It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barb Matheson. Barb was a free spirit that loved life. She loved to travel, living in many different places in both the U.S. and Canada. She loved to meet new people and explore the outdoors. Barb was a jack-of-all-trades having many different careers throughout her life from working at the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa to fishing in Maine.
Barb will be greatly missed by her children Sonia and Ajay, her grandchildren; Preston, Keionna, Hayden, Ashton, Harper, Cassia, Carlee and Jordie. Barb will also be fondly remembered by her sisters; Elizabeth Betty Googoo, Nancy Bernard, Eunice Bernard, Sheila Bernard, Anna K. Pierro, Matilda and Bridget Marshall, her brother Allister (Abun) Marshall, her godchildren; Natalie Googoo, Francis Pierro Jr., and Donnie as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Barb also leaves behind her in laws John and Elizabeth Matheson and her chosen sister and friend Molly Pierro as well as special friends Francis and Vicky Lee, Castine, Maine.
Barb is predeceased by her parents Peter and Caroline Googoo and Helen and Michael Googoo, her brothers; Donald Googoo, Henry Googoo, William Googoo, Gabriel Googoo, Ryan Googoo, Alex Googoo, Bernie Googoo, Stanley Googoo, Wayne Googoo, her sisters; Sharon Lafford, Mary Bernard, Germaine Martin and Geraldine Paul as well as several aunts and uncles.
Special thanks to the staff of Hospice Cape Breton and palliative care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for taking care of our beloved Barbara.
Visitation for Barb will begin on Thursday, January 4th after 7pm, at the Elder Centre in Wagmatcook. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 6th at 11am, at Queen of the World Church also in Wagmatcook, with Fr. Angus MacDougall officiating. Cremation and salite will follow.
