It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Benjamin Peck Sr of Wagmatcook First Nation on Thursday April 14, 2022, at the age of 94. After several months of declining health, Ben died peacefully with his loving family by his side.
Ben was born in Wagmatcook on June 9, 1927, to father Gabriel Peck and mother Mary Susan Peck (Isadore). His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led him to different jobs. He was a special constable for Wagmatcook First Nation for 25 years. He was also a band counsellor for 12 years. He was an avid hunter and trapper in his prime years. He enjoyed watching different sports on television, and he loved playing TV bingo. Every time he had the opportunity or audience, he would display his fiddling skills. In the community, he was a very spiritual person and respected elder. He always attended mass until he wasn’t able to, but thanks to elder Molly Pierro she brought him communion every Sunday. Ben was an incredible man as he had so many losses in his lifetime but continued to provide love and support for his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren. His home always welcomed any community member that needed support or a good meal.
Ben was predeceased in death by his parents and his loving wife Elisabeth Peck (Pierro), his brother Michael (1st wife Emily, 2nd wife June), his sisters Agnes Marshall (Bernie), Josephine Marshall (John), and Bella Paul (Peter), his children Martha, Gregory, Cyril, Abraham, Leonard, Eugene, Sandra, Jane Elizabeth, and Elizabeth Ann Peck (Tommy) and 4 in infancy, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ben is survived by his only sister Jean Peck, Eskasoni, his sons; Roger, Anthony, Calvin, Benjamin Jr. (Martha) and Lester Peck (Ann). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Ben is planned for Saturday, April 23, 2022, starting at 7 pm. at the Elder Center, Wagmatcook First Nation. All are welcomed to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday April 25, 2022 at 11 am. People wishing to honour Ben’s lifelong commitment to family and community can by making a donation towards his Sa’lite.
