It is with sadness and broken hearts that our family announces that our mother, Blanche Noreen “Renie” Peters passed away (reluctantly) on Sat, Mar 2nd, 2024 at the age of 93. Anyone who knew Renie would certainly applaud her effort and battle to stay with us as long as she could.
Born Sept 5th, 1930 to Lemont and Anne Rutherford (nee MacLean) Mummie grew up on Mira Road and loved to reminisce about her days as a teenager working at the Vogue Theatre, hitchhiking to dances in Johnstown and camping outside on the grass with her Best Friend Cissy: a lifelong Friendship she truly cherished.
In her working days, Mummie was a waitress at various local hotels including The Wandlyn Inn where she met her good friend Charlotte. Later in life she worked as a Nannie for the Sidney family, a job she loved and still talked about often. She loved being a Nannie to her own 18 Grandchildren and had even more fun being “Old Nannie” to 21 Great Grandchildren and all will miss her dearly.
Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her family. She is survived by her children; CC (Bill MacLean) Rothsay NB, Terry, Prospect NS, Monty (Corinna) Coxheath, Mona (Bud MacIntyre) Gabarus, Erin, Sydney, Kathryn (Dwayne Lapierre) Truro, Sondra (Dennis Marshall) Calgary, Stuart, Sydney and Raye (Malcolm MacDonald) Catalone. Also surviving are siblings Patsy Walsh (Ray) Cornwall Ont, Heather Mills (Bobby) Marion Bridge, Nick Rutherford (Donna) Coxheath and brother by choice Wally Crawley, Sydney and several nieces and nephews. After the passing of her good friend and neighbor Irene, she became a surrogate mom to her “other” family the Petrie’s whom she loved like her own.
Renie was predeceased by her husband Stuart (Sonny) Peters, “brother” Charles, brother in law and friend Raymond, sister in law Dolly, daughter in law Valli and her first child Billy who she missed every day of her life. Renie loved and will be missed by her fur babies Daisy and Penny.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place, a private graveside service and celebration of life will take place at a later date. Our Mummie was the heart and soul of our family, she blessed us with a quick wit and great sense of humor and that will be what carries us through without her. Rest now Mama we will love you forever.
