It is with deep regret we announce the death of our dear mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who passed April 9, 2024 at the age of 93 surrounded by her loving family at Harbourstone.
Kay grew up in Whitney Pier and was the youngest daughter of Dennis & Teodora (Barnetsky) Bartkow. She was a member of St. Mary's Polish Church. After graduating from Sydney Academy in 1947, she was employed for 27 years by the Royal Bank, Whitney Pier and main branch Charlotte St.
Kay was an avid lover of all animals looking after any stray that wandered to her door. She found great joy in her three adopted strays, Callie, Toby, and Zack, who gave her many years of companionship.
She looked forward to spending her summers at the cottage in Islandview with her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren who she dearly loved.
Kay is survived by her sons Dennis (Jan) and Raymond (Cathy), grandchildren: Melissa Keel(Robert), Stephen MacDonald (Karlee), Brian MacDonald, Leah MacDonald and great grandchildren Molly and Ellie. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 66 years Bernie, son in infancy Michael, sisters Anne McMullen and Mary Durkacz, brothers Joe Bartkow (Rita), Michael and Stephen both in infancy, special niece Natalie Dicks and special nephew Allan McMullen.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Anne's Bay for the excellent care mom received. Your thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated.
A visitation for Catherine will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 pm at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George Street, Sydney. A funeral mass will occur Friday, April 19 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Polish Church, 21 Wesley Street, Sydney.
