Curtis William Bernard

We the family of Curtis Bernard regret to announce his passing on Thursday June 25, 2021. Born August 4, 1986 in Sydney, he was the son of Michael Bernard (Jolene) and Evelyn Toney of Eskasoni. Curtis enjoyed gaming with friends and playing outdoors with his children, who were his world, as well as hiking. He was a hard working tire changer for the community and he always put others before himself. He followed the ways of Mi’kmaq poet and grandmother Rita Joe, he enjoyed writing poetry and writing his dreams in his journal. He was also passionate about reading and spending time with his beloved children.

Curtis is survived by his two children: Curtis Bernard Jr. and Vi Cassidy. His step children Evelyn and Lucas; girlfriend Keena Paul; godchildren; Connor Doucette and Chico Bernard, siblings; Vanessa, Audrey, Nathan Toney, Nikhea, Kyla (Shawn), Sasha (Robert), Christopher Bernard, Chad, Darryn Stevens, Michael, Austin Cremo, Allan, Jael Denny, Carter, Maya and Emma Bernard all of Eskasoni.

Curtis is predeceased by; paternal grandparents William and Catherine Bernard, Frank and Rita Joe, godparents; Theresa, Glen Martin, niece; Angel Ann Theresa Bernard, uncles; Francis Jr., Basil Joe, Gerald, Joe Bernard, aunts; Bernadette Rose, and cousin Stephen Richard Rose.

A private family visitation will be held Thursday July 1st at the Elder Centre, Eskasoni. Funeral service will be held on Sat July 3rd at Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni.
