74 –Westmount
Delbert Owen Craig of Westmount died peacefully on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Palliative Care Unit in Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Owen was the son of the late Donna and Keith Craig of Woodstock, NB. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Waterman); daughter Debbie MacFadyen (Paul), Calgary; son David (Krista), Kingston, ON; and son Darryl (Dawn), Calgary, AB. He is also survived by brother Curtis (Bev), Salisbury, NB; sister Ariel (David) Montieth, Woodstock, NB and sister Mildred (late Donald) Nason, Saint John, NB. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Christopher and Megan MacFadyen, Calgary and Pierce Craig, Kingston, and many nieces and nephews; he will also be sadly missed by mother-in-law, Eleanor Waterman and family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy and his brother Vernon.
Owen moved to Cape Breton to work for Sydney Steel Corporation and retired after working 35 years with the corporation. He was a long-time member of St. Aidan’s Anglican Church in Westmount and an adherent of St. Andrew’s United Church for the past 19 years. He was a proud member of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College class of 1956 and he enjoyed his annual reunions with his class mates, for this is indeed, a very special group of men. He was also an active member of the Sydney Y’s Men Club and the St. Andrew’s United Church Men’s Club…two organizations which filled his need for community service and who will miss Owen’s dedicated contribution.
An active outdoors man and a jack of all trades and master of many, Owen was kept busy fundraising for the Y’s Men, cooking for the church men’s club and taking especially good care of wife Jennifer. He was a devoted father, proud grandfather and a genuine friend and caring neighbor.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation with Owen’s family will be at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Monday, April 5, 2010 at St. Andrew’s United Church, 40 Bentinck Street, Sydney at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Stephen Mills and Rev. Tom Whent officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Donations in Owen’s memory may be made to Palliative Care, C.B. Regional Hospital, Sydney Y’s Men Club or Canadian Cancer Society.
