Breton Regional Hospital with his loving and devoted wife Martha at his side.
Donnie was born in Glace Bay on June 24th, 1944. At just 16 years old, he joined the Navy as an engineer and went on to dedicate himself to teaching and training young engineers throughout his service. Donnie met the love of his life, Martha, when he was 23 and she was 17. From that moment on, they built a beautiful life together rooted in love, commitment, and family. Their marriage was one of devotion and partnership, where Donnie always faithfully supported his wife unconditionally. Together, they raised four children: Simon, Gail, Deisha, and their baby girl, Rosemary. Donnie was also a devoted grandfather, who played a meaningful role in helping to raise his granddaughters, Tamara and Jesslee, who he loved so deeply. Donnie found joy in the simple moments of everyday life. He loved a strong black coffee and early morning grocery runs, especially filling the “treat drawer” for his grandchildren. While his wife and daughters shopped, he could often be found happily napping in the car. A lifelong reader, Donnie shared his love of books and reading with two of his daughters and
grandchildren, Tamara and Jesslee. He also deeply loved and cherished the visits from his son, Simon, which meant more to him than words could express. Donnie was a proud husband, father, grandfather of 9, and great-grandfather of 15. Each and every one made his heart swell with such gratitude. Without fail, he would never miss an opportunity to talk about his grandbabies.
Donnie was a true social butterfly who connected effortlessly with people from all walks of life. He never forgot a face and was always ready for a friendly chat. He had a heart of gold that left a lasting impact on countless lives. Donnie found a deep purpose in helping others through his work as a commissionaire. He also offered wisdom, understanding, and encouragement to many through the AA meetings he attended.
Donnie is survived by his loving wife, Martha; his sister, Patricia Allison; and his children, Simon (Nicole), Gail (Alexander), Deisha, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Donnie was predeceased by his beloved mother, Elsie Matilda Arsenault, and his father, Vincent Ignatius Devison; his brothers, Vincent (Cecile), and Michael (Cathy); and his beautiful daughter, Rosemary Patricia Darlene Devison, who was forever held in his heart.
Donnie’s life was defined by love, strength, service, and human connection. He walked through the world with humility, kindness, and an open heart. His memory will forever be a blessing to those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A graveside service at Eastmount Cemetery will be announced at a later date. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family by visiting twcurry.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to mental health and addiction services, in honour of Donnie to continue his legacy of care and guidance for those in need.
