Dorothy Mary MacDonald, 91, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2017 at Glace Bay Hospital.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Crowdis, Sydney, by her husband Bernard, September 1, 2005, also by her chosen sister Audrey Irwin, Toronto, in 2011.
She is survived by her niece, Marie (Allan) MacIntyre and by Audrey’s children, David, Brian (Pat) and Mark, all of Ontario, by Audrey’s niece Sharon (Earl) MacEachern of Mira, sisters-in-law Hilda (Hector) MacDonald, Theresa (James) MacDonald and by several nieces and nephews of her late husband.
Dorothy was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish and of Simmons College, Boston, Mass. She taught school for many years as a Home Economics teacher in the Sydney school system. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish and a member of the ladies auxilary. She was a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women. Dorothy travelled extensively to London, Scotland, Japan, Russia and many other countries in Europe.

Visitation for Mrs. MacDonald will take place from 2-4 & 7-9 pm on Sunday, April 9 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, April 10 at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
