October 23, 1926 - December 1, 2010
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Frances Marjorie (Dawe) Maroun, on Dec. 1, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
She fought a dignified and courageous battle with cancer. She was the eldest child of the late Frank and Elizabeth Maud (Oliver) Dawe, Sydney. Mom loved the simple pleasures in life, her opera music, dancing the Lebanese dabke in her younger days, a good game of tarabish, especially with her sons-in-law and preparing and serving her beloved Lebanese food.
Mom was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima parish, Sydney River, and more recently, a parishioner of St. Joseph¹s Church, Sydney. Mom was a devoted sister, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She always put the well being of her family before herself. She was a hardworker both in her home and outside her home. She worked for over 30 years at Woolco, Sydney River, and at Colpitts the Stationer, Moncton, N.B.
Frances is survived by her three daughters, Sharon (Ronald) Stoffer, Lakeland, Fla., Mary Louise (Edward) Belliveau, Shediac, N.B., and Katherine (Gerald) Sheppard, Howie Centre; and by her two grandsons, whom she dearly loved and was so proud of, Peter and Kenzie Sheppard. Nanny was special to her two grandsons; as they were to her. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary J. MacDonald, Sydney, and Elizabeth Ann Dawe, Texas; and by several nieces and nephews. Frances was predeceased by her husband and soulmate, Peter John Maroun in March 1996, and by her brother, Frank Dawe Jr., Cleveland, Ohio.
At mom¹s request there will be no visitation. There will be a funeral mass to celebrate her life at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, Fr. Will MacPherson and Fr. Albert Maroun officiating. Interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
