It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Frances Jeannette McCarron at home on May 6th, 2023. Mom was a faithful and loving wife, a devoted mother, a special grandmother and great grandmother, a loyal sister, aunt, and friend. Mom was born on March 4th 1932 in New Waterford, the daughter of the late John “Super” and Frances (Bruce) McNeil. Aside from being a devoted mother, her profession was teaching until she went on to work as a ward clerk at the City Hospital. Mom was a selfless person whose family always came first. She was a very competitive person, and an award winning basketball player and coach at Mount Carmel, for which her team was recognized at The Coal Bowl. Mom passed this competitive drive on to her children and grandchildren whom she followed from rinks to gyms for many years.
Mom was blessed to have spent more than sixty years with her family at the bungalow in Big Pond. Card games were big on the agenda, especially tarabish, but her greatest joy was having her family, friends and relatives spend time at the bungalow. You would often find her sitting in the sun porch having a cup of tea with her goddaughter Susan Dixon. In her downtime, she could be found watching curling or the Blue Jays, or heading down to the bingo hall with her sister in-law and best friend Sheila Tynski.
Mom is survived by her children, Michael, at home, Gregory (Terry Lee MacDonald), Ronnie (Josephine MacLeod), Marlene (Glenn Usher), Rod, Marie (John Walsh), Peter (Judi Starzomski), Billy (Ann Marie MacQuarrie) and Glen (Michelle Works). Mom is also survived by her grandchildren, Jeffrey, David and Keith McCarron, Kyle and Erika Usher, Joey, John Michael and Nicholas Walsh, Patrick and Jessica McCarron, Jack and Valerie McCarron and Jamie, Joseph and Jesse McCarron. Mom is also survived by nine great grandchildren, Kyle and Petra McCarron, Claire and Nathan McCarron, Maëlle, Macy and Jacob McCarron and Myla and Alice Walsh. Mom is also survived by her sister Joan Devine and brothers Robert, Russell and Richard McNeil and sisters in-law Christina Gallaway, Clara McCarron and Colleen Tanner.
She was predeceased by her loving husband John Roderick “Roddie” McCarron, a child Joseph, in infancy, her brother Roy McNeil and her sister, Sister Evelyn McNeil.
Our oldest brother Michael is a special needs son who resided with Mom until her death. Both her and Dad devoted their life to raise awareness for children with disabilities and campaigned for funding for associations that provided services for them. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Horizon Achievement Centre.
