It is with heavy hearts we the family announce the passing of Franics (Frank) Gerard Bourgeois after a courageous battle with cancer. Francis passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20th, 2025, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital An Cala unit. He was the most self-less, devoted, giving father and husband one could be blessed to have.
Born October 23, 1958, he was the son of the late Fredrick Edgar and Mary (Andrews) Bourgeois. Left with broken hearts but blessed with fond memories, Francis is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Betty Anne and precious son, Jeffery, at home. He is also survived by his brother Paul (late Carol), Blaze (Betty), sister Theresa (Terrance), Mother-in-Law Thersa Kozera and his beautiful extended families of the Andrews and the Kozera’s. Francis also leaves behind his special Aunt Mary Andrews who was like a loving mother to him, and his great friend Terry. Besides his parents, Francis is predeceased by his brothers Charlie and Albert.
Francis, was a true "pier boy" whose life was shaped by the community he grew up in. Born and raised on the lively streets of Whitney Pier, he was always surrounded by friends and family. As a young boy, his summers were filled with the joy of playing baseball, while the winters saw him embrace the excitement of hockey.
Frank began his career out west, where he discovered his passion for mechanics and welding. No matter where he went, he built lifelong friendships along the way. When he returned home, he started working at Devco, and after it closed, he moved on to Central Shops and LogicTech where he perfected his welding craft. Frank joined the crews at Savage, who became like family to him. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Savage for bringing Frank joy and happiness, especially in the final months. He truly loved going to work.
Francis was known for his infectious sense of humor, always ready with a story or a witty joke to make those around him laugh. His stories were legendary, and his laughter could light up any room. He was the kind of person whose presence brought warmth and joy to everyone he encountered. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will take place from 4:00 until 7:00pm at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., on Thursday, Feb. 27. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, Feb. 28 also at TW Curry Parkview Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating.
