Jim was the only child of the late Julia (O'Connell) and Rudolf Siteman. He grew up in Lantz, NS. In high school he met the love of his life, Pauline Barkhouse. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary in April 2025.
As a young man, Jim worked for Shaw Brick in Lantz and Sydney. After the Sydney plant closed, he sold mobile homes in Howie Centre for Havell Brothers. He then moved with his family to Amherst where he opened a sales lot for Havells. After three years, they moved back to Sydney, and Jim began 30 years of work at Cape Breton Dairymen. He was beloved by customers to whom he delivered milk throughout Cape Breton.
Jim built his own house in Sydney Forks where he made a home for his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and strong friend. He helped friends, family, and strangers alike whenever the need arose. He was the embodiment of hospitality and care.
Jim loved to fish, and was fond of a drink of rye from time to time. He enjoyed NASCAR, and traveled to races in New Hampshire and Daytona. Later in life, he discovered the joys of barbershop singing, and was an enthusiastic member of the Cape Breton Chordsmen. He was a devoted, long-time parishioner of Christ Church/Christ the King in Sydney. Jim and Pauline enjoyed birding, and always made sure there was a feeder in the backyard during the cold winter months. He delighted in watching the birds’ antics, and chasing off the squirrels.
Jim was a man of character, strength, devotion, faith, humour, and honesty.
He is survived by his beloved wife Pauline, his son the Reverend M. Elliott Siteman (Adele Megann), and granddaughter, Magdalene.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his son Andrew, in-laws George and Marguerite Barkhouse, and daughter-in-law Wendy-Faye Siteman.
Visitation will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St, Sydney, on Thursday, January 30, 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Jim’s memory to the IWK Children’s Hospital or a charity that is near to your own heart.
Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him. Amen.
