Surrounded by his loving family John passed peacefully at the age of 92 on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Florence, he was the son of the late Harry and Florence (MacDonald) Forrester. He was a member of St. Anthony Daniel parish. In his younger years John was raised in Port Hood by the MacKinnon family and is still survived by his 'honourary mother', Margaret MacKinnon of Port Hood. From 1939-1947 John was a veteran of the Second World War, first with the C.B. Highlanders and then as a master corporal gunner serving overseas with the Canadian Artillery out of Petawawa, Ont. He worked as a coal miner for five years then at the Sydney Steel plant until his retirement in 1984. He had a passion for fishing, woodworking, CB radio (his handle was Hatchback) and he was also a man who loved all animals and was a fan of antique cars. He will always be remembered for his contagious smile, pleasant personality and quick wit. He is survived by his son, Wally (Eileen), Sydney; his four grandchildren, Sean (Jennifer), Oshawa, Shannon (Mike) McMullen, Sydney, Shara (Sean) Martell, Ottawa and Shendle (Wes) Smith, Ottawa; and by his six very special great-grandchildren, Bailey, Kassidy, Kallie, Calum, Chloe and Teagan. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, the former Mary Lucy Boudreau, four brothers, Martin, Vince, Cliff and Ralph, three sisters Isabel, Lillian and Pearl. Funeral service will take place on Friday, July 16 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel with Rev. Doug Murphy officiating.
