87 - Sydney
His son Larry said it all; “My dad passed away last night, November 20, 2013 at age 87. He enlisted in the army at age 18 and served in Belgium during the Second World War with the North Shore Regiment. He only had grade 8, but was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever known and was a vigorous and active person well into old age.”
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late James and Annie (MacArthur) MacPhee.
He is survived by his buddy, wife Ollie (O’Keefe) of 62 years; his sons Paul and Larry (Alice) and 5 grandchildren, Michael, Julia, Carson, Thomas, Gregory and his mother Patricia. Also his brothers Donnie, Tommy and Jim; his sisters, Rita Potter and Kathleen Simpson.
He was predeceased by sisters Jean, Margaret, Elizabeth and Anne.
He belonged to Branch 12 Legion, Sydney. He worked throughout Cape Breton in auto parts sales and was at one time, part owner of Sydney Auto Parts. He was also employed for several years at C.N.R. At an early age he played hockey as a goalie and later coached the St. Theresa’s parish hockey team. He was very active in St. Theresa’s parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and a senior Altar Server.
