

Born in Sydney, the eldest of 8, he was the son of the late Dennis and Jane (Hollahan) Murphy.
In his younger years, John attended Constantine School and Sydney Academy and later went on to St.F.X.. He went to work for Sydney Steel Corp. in the Blast Furnace Dept. and later in the boiler house, retiring in 1985 as an assistant superintendent, stationary engineer. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. John was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for a number of years and also helped cook the turkeys for both the K.O.C. and the C.W.L. John was also a carpentry enthusiast, with numerous projects including his ever popular bird houses. He enjoyed watching his children grow up and having fun activities that his gems, his grandchildren, brought to his life. He also enjoyed the Eagles games with all his friends. Anyone who needed assistance in any way, he was there.
John is survived by his wife of 57years, Isobel (MacEachern), their children John Francis (Debbie), Coxheath; Rose Ann (Bill Lockyer), Ottawa; Marie and Andrea, Sydney River; brother Peter (Evelyn), B.C.; sisters Mary Chisholm, Antigonish; Dolores Lynds (Elmer), Truro; Patricia Dennitis, Sydney; 2 grandchildren Sean, Vancouver; Jody (Jeff )Columbus, Sydney and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters Shirley Gillis, Sr.Veronica CND and Jeanette Murphy.
Visitation for John Murphy will be held Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Duaine Devereax officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
