The family of John Urich grieve the death of their father and grandfather on May 21st 2015.
John emigrated from Austria in 1954 having already secured a job in restoration of the Basilica in St. John's. He was a master stone mason with an excellent work ethic. In 1962 he was hired to supervise the stonework at the Fortress of Louisbourg where he worked for 29 years. Following retirement he continued to work doing restoration of the Post Office in Baddeck, Bell's home Beinn Bhreagh, Cossit House and St. Patrick's church museum in Sydney among several other sites. John loved his gardens, animals, his property and his children.
He is survived by his children Teresa, Louisbourg, John (Karen) Dartmouth, Jill (Allan) Halifax, Nancy (Seth) West Pennant and their mother Marion Urich, Halifax, 9 grandchildren; Jack (Sorren), Alex, Ruby, Charles, Jenny, Madeleine, Will and Joey and special new grandson Woodrow, brothers Melchior, Fritz and Josef, sisters Maria and Viktoria.
He was predeceased by son Tony, his parents Melchoir and Theresia Urich and eight brothers and sisters.
A celebration of John's life will take place on Tuesday, May 26th from 7 to 9pm at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney.
