June Aldyne MacKillop, 83 of Dartmouth died peacefully, Wednesday, Oct 15 at Oakwood Terrace surrounded by her family.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Gordon K MacLeod and his wife, Olive Harriett Dean.
June was a long time devoted educator starting at the age of 16 in West Bay , Cape Breton. In addition to being a classroom teacher at Colby, South Bar and Coxheath Schools, she spent time as a guidance counselor for the Sydney School System. Her passion was her family, the students she taught and dancing to blues music. One of June's favorite things was being by the water and she enjoyed spending many summers with family at Hubbards beach.
Surviving are her daughter, Allyson Higgins ,Kentville; daughter, Kate and Husband Bruce, Manteo,NC; son Kevin and his wife Kate, Dartmouth; son Keith and wife Eileen, Grand River; 5 grandchildren Darren, Bruce, and Eric Higgins; Jessica and Rebecca Jarrett-MacKillop.
Visitation will be held 4-6 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, October 20 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel Sydney .
A private graveside service will be held at Forest haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations in June’s memory may be made to Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia or the Salvation Army.
