

It is with heavy hearts and much sadness that we announce the death of Leonard Chiasson after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday December 27, 2025 at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the CB Regional Hospital.
Leonard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was 79.
He was predeceased by his parents, Claire & Beatrice Chiasson, his sister Thérèse, his brother Doug; his mother and father-in-law Alex and Mary Langlois Sr., his in-laws Carol and Jackie McPherson, Wayne Langlois, Simon Langlois, Rose Cole, Mary Langlois Jr.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Charmaine Chiasson (Langlois); his children: Rhonda (Stephen), Clarence (Liz), Carol Anne; his grandchildren: Rebecca Dermody (Dawson), Michael Dermody (Abbey); Samantha Kowalczyk (Adam); Shanna MacDonald, Shae-Lynn Chiasson (Braden) and mother Kelley MacDonald; Alyssa Hill, Justyn Hill; and his great-granddaughter Lexi Gibson. He is also survived by his sister Mathilda (Jim Tatem) in Texas; and brothers-in-law Lionel (Leo) Leblanc in Ontario, Alex Langlois, Tom Cole, William Langlois (Colleen) in Halifax, David Langlois (Marilyn); and sisters-in-law Gisele Chiasson in Moncton, Vickie Langlois in Ontario, Rose Langlois, Lorraine McMullin (Billy), Debbie Levangie (Billy), Cathy Farrow (Aubrey) and many nieces and nephews.
Leonard retired after working 25 years at Co-op Building Supplies. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of Branch 12 Legion. He also enjoyed playing darts with the crew from Bennett Street (Frog Town) and more recently at Club 55 with his wife Charmaine. He was the quiet leader of the Chiasson Family, often offering his guidance and encouragement through his unwavering commitment to them. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the quiet lessons he taught them.
The family would like to thank the staff of the EHS, the ER, 3B and the An Cala Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care and assistance during Leonard’s brief illness. We would like to especially thank Dr. Allison Stasiuk and Dr. Saneea Abboud for your care and compassion for Leonard and his family. You all have been a beautiful blessing to them.
In Leonard’s memory, donations can be made to An Cala Palliative Care Unit or the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 2nd, 2026 from 4-7 PM. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 3rd at 11 AM with Father Conrad Edwards presiding. Burial at a later date in Chéticamp. For those unable to attend the service can be viewed by visiting twcurry.com.
