It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that her family announces that Levina Rose Googoo passed away on May 23, 2024, at her home in Membertou, Nova Scotia, with her love of family, community and home in her thoughts to the very end.
Forever a Pier girl, Levina was born in January 1969 in the community of Whitney Pier, and she often spoke with a deep fondness of her African Nova Scotian roots, memories of pony league and days spent at the United Mission Youth Centre. A career public servant, Levina became an active advocate for inclusion and diversity in the workplace. After marriage she joined the Mi’kmaq community in Membertou and raised a family bringing the same love, understanding and acceptance that defined her early life and career with her, embracing her role as wife, school mom, cheerleader and chauffeur. Whether it was hockey, soccer basketball, taekwondo, football or lacrosse, she could always be heard in the stands telling her girl and both boys to “Go” and to “Hit ‘em hard!” A seasoned staycationer who enjoyed the easy summer lifestyle of camping in Ben Eoin or car tripping with her family, she learned to embrace the world and enjoyed travelling most especially her last vacation in Rome to celebrate her 10000-day wedding anniversary.
Levina is survived and much beloved by her husband Darren Googoo; her children, daughter Raven , sons Andrew (Samantha Lawrence) and Dante; father Daniel MacDonald; siblings Julian “Butch” (Betty) Alleyne , Lillian (Todd) Marsman, Danny (Laurel) MacDonald, Jimmy (Lori) MacDonald, Noreen (Charles) MacKinnon, and Darren (Patti-Lynn) MacDonald; Parent In-Laws Mary Ellen and Francis Googoo; In-laws Shannon Googoo, Robin (Noreen) Googoo, Glenn Googoo, Kelly (Bob) Gloade, Jason (Shawna) Googoo, and Keah (Bradley) Gloade; God Children Brandon Marsman and Josh Googoo; Uncle Hughie (Rose) MacDonald; Aunts Diana Alleyne, Lucy Worrell, and Rose Holland.
