Margaret Ann 'Peggy' MacNeil

Margaret MacNeil passed away on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at the home of her son, John MacNeil, with whom she resided since her illness began in July 2007.

John gave Mom lots of love and understanding, and was always there for her through her difficult time.

Our Mom was born Sept. 23, 1928, at Piper's Cove, Cape Breton. She was the daughter of the late Hector P. and Isabel (MacDougall) MacNeil. She was a member of St. Mary's parish East Bay.

Our Mom was employed at St. Rita Hospital for 34 years in the housekeeping department, eventually becoming supervisor. Our Mom, retired in September 1992. Mom enjoyed her flowers, quilting, sewing, knitting, baking, and being a wonderful mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and, of course, her sporty red Chev Cavalier.

Margaret MacNeil was predeceased by her husband John Hector MacNeil, in August 1993. She was also predeceased by her brother Patrick MacNeil, sisters, Christine MacNeil and Irene Morley, daughter Kathleen (MacNeil) Williams, granddaughter Tena Williams, sons-in-law, Kenneth Ivey and Norman Williams.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Margaret Ivey, Fall River, Paula MacIntyre, Howie Centre; sons, John MacNeil, Sydney, and Gerald MacNeil, Northside East Bay. She is also survived by her sisters, Marie Buote, Dena Buote and Teresa Currie, all of Brantford, Ont., Mrs. Leona Bushnik (Arthur), Gillis Lake, and brother Michael 'Mickey' MacNeil, Piper's Cove. Margaret is also survived by her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Our Mom was greatly loved and will be forever missed by all her family and everyone who knew her.

Visitation for Margaret will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Church, Rev. Frank Abbass officiating, with interment in the parish cemetery East Bay.

Donations in Margaret's memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
