With grieving hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Googoo, on Wednesday March 2, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, born to the late Joseph and Nancy (Gabriel) Googoo on September 26, 1950.
Mary worked many years as a receptionist for Dr. M.S. Virick, and for the Eskasoni Health Center until retirement. She was also a dedicated member of the Holy Family parish, where she volunteered as a fundraiser for the church as well as the annual St. Anne De Beaupre trip to Quebec, which she looked forward to every year with the Elders.
Mary was a great friend to many people and had the gift to make everyone feel special. She loved playing bingo, visiting with friends, and playing Sudoku. She enjoyed driving around in her car and making her phone calls to family and friends. Mary especially enjoyed her Maine holidays with her partner Junior Voisine, where they travelled back and forth to Maine and Eskasoni.
Mary is survived by her longtime partner Jr. Voisine, sister Mary Bridget Paul (Nicholas) and brother Paul Nicholas as well as many other relatives. She loved all her godchildren; Mag Gould, Julie Gould, Malsum Gould, Kristen Basque, Jennifer Dennis, Mawg Paul, J.R. Nicholas, Stewart Toney, Marjorie Marshall and Elisha Googoo.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by one sister Susie Marie Poulette and one brother Mathew Francis.
Special Thank you to Lorretta Sylliboy and Charllee Paul for being her caregivers. Thank you to the Health Center staff, and thank you to the doctors, nurses and the staff at CBRH, especially Johnny Bernard.
A wake will be held at the Eskasoni Elder Center, beginning Tuesday March 8, 2022 after 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church on Thursday March 10, 2022 at 10:30 am, with Fr. Antolin Asor officiating. Covid protocols will be in place. A burial will follow service.
