Theresa ‘Rita’ (MacNeil) MacDonald, age 88 of Sydney, formerly of Irish Vale, passed away on August 8, 2018 at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney.
Born in Irish Vale, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth (MacMullen) and Roderick A. MacNeil.
Rita worked at MacGillivray Guest Home for over 30 years and raised her family on Campbell Street, Sydney. Rita was strong in her faith and loved Scottish music and playing cards, especially with her grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters Betty (Roddie MacIssac), Anne (Kevin Smith), Arlene Thompson, Pauline MacDonald (Trevor); sons Gerry MacIsaac (Bonnie), Donald ‘Rocket’ (Pauline), David ‘Stomper’ (Grace), Doug (Darlene) and John ‘Schultz’. Also surviving is sister Catherine ‘Kay’ Morrison, special niece Shirley Hynes, grandchildren Tracy, Johnathan, Julia, Kim, Matthew, Christopher, Justin, Donnie, Leslie, Michael, Mark, Barrett, Brendon and 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband John Angus, daughter Margaret Elizabeth in infancy, sisters Katie, Margaret, Cecelia, Marie, Mary Lucy, Josie and brothers Angus, Jimmy, John and Roddie.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Cove Guest Home for their patience and understanding.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 11 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Sunday, August 12 at 2 pm at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
