It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Ruth Floyd Delaney in Halifax on August 15, 2023 in her 101st year surrounded by her family. Mom was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on October 6, 1922, daughter of the late Vernon and Mary (Floyd) Mugford. She spent most of her life living in Sydney until 2016 when Mom & Dad lost their home in the flood and moved to Dartmouth to be closer to their family. Ruth worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia on Charlotte Street in Sydney for many years where she made lifelong friendships. Mom’s true passions in her life were her family, beloved husband Marty of 67 years (you rarely found one without the other) her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her sons Barry (Terry), Brian (Kate), grandchildren David (Alyson Fulton), Dylan (Mikaela), Kian (Caleigh Reynders) and only granddaughter Erin. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Agnes MacIntyre, Myrna Delaney, Cecelia Delaney, Marie Delaney, and Warna Delaney. Brothers-in-law, Pat Delaney, Joe Delaney and Gerry Jr Delaney as well as many nieces, nephews and close cousins.
Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband Marty Delaney, grandson Sean Delaney, brothers George (Kathryn) Mugford and Harry (Mary) Mugford. Ruth was also predeceased by in-laws Mary and Bill Tobin, Theresa and Ted Smith, Jean and Hughie MacLeod, Margie and Earl Healy, Gerald and Marg Delaney, Ron Delaney, Jim Delaney, Betty Delaney and Marty MacIntyre.
We would like to extend our heart felt thanks to the dedicated staff on 9 Center at Northwood Care in Halifax for the care and compassion shown to our mother. Also a very special thank you to Pat and Myrna Delaney for everything that they did for our parents throughout the years.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday September 1st at 11:00am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 40 Cabot St., Sydney with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Reception to follow in church foyer. Internment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.twcurry.com
